Commercial printers

Commercial printersI had just started working for a brand new company as a marketing assistant and had prepared a series of ads that we wanted put out ASAP. I needed to have my presentation printed and ready for a Friday meeting, including sample posters and printed ads. I really was in a rush to get it out on time when the owner’s assistant told me about great professional commercial printers in our mid size Oregon town.

I was skeptical at first, I wanted to have control over the process so I could be sure the job was done right. I went to the commercial printers with a list of questions and found that the commercial printers had all the right answers and put my concerns at ease!

When Friday came around I was able to pick up the job from the commercial printers, on time, and had a wonderful presentation! Things are on an upward swing and it looks like it’s going to stay that way!

When you start a project that will be printed, it's best to find a few printers to discuss the project with. As with most things, the more options you have in the beginning the better your chances of successful completion. You can ask associates, a business group or your designer for recommendations. It's a good idea to visit and meet the printer to get a feel for who you'll be dealing with.

You'll need to tell the printer a few things about your project but you should also be prepared to ask a few questions like:

How long have you been in business?

What are your hours of operation? Do you print at night or on weekends?

How many presses do you have and what are the color capabilities of each?

What software and materials can you accept?

What linescreen do you use?

Is there a specific kind of project that you specialize in?

Can I see some samples of your print work?

May I contact some of your clients for their feedback?

What kind of proofs can I expect to see before my project is printed?

How much time will I have to review the proofs?

If I am not satisfied with the quality of the printing, will you reprint the job at your cost?

What method of payment will you accept?
Get to know your prospective printers and find out how focused they are on keeping their clients happy. Find out this information before you hand over your project so you'll be less likely to regret your choice later on.

Good luck with your next project!
